Painting with a playlist

How our frame turns music into generative art, and why we print so few of the pictures.

Tempera’s colours come from the sleeve of the album that is playing. With its small microphone switched on, it also listens for the beat, so the picture moves in time with the room.

Fast songs pack the frame with movement. Slow ones leave it room to breathe. Every listening session draws something nobody else could reproduce, because nobody else played those songs, in that order, at that volume.

We let the frame run in the studio for months and chose the pieces we kept coming back to. Those are the first prints.
