Studio Nine Lab.

Activate Matte.

Your email has a download link, an Activate Matte button and an 8-character code. Use whichever is easier.

  1. Install Matte

Open Matte.dmg from your download link and drag Matte into Applications. Open it once and Mappy appears in the notch. If macOS says it can’t verify the developer, here’s how to open it.

  2. One click: use the email link

Click Activate Matte in the email. It opens Matte (s9matte://activate) with your email and code filled in, and activates it for you. Nothing to type.

  3. Or type it

In Matte’s welcome screen (or Settings → Account), enter your email and the code, like 7K3Q-9XMD. Case and the dash don’t matter.

  4. Your widgets arrive

The widgets you picked at sign-up drop into the bar. Add more any time from the Library.

Each code works for 14 days on up to 3 Macs. Lost it? Get a new code. No account yet? Sign up.

macOS won’t open Matte

The free beta isn’t notarised by Apple yet, so the first time you open it macOS asks you to confirm it. On macOS 15 or later, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. On macOS 14, Control-click Matte and choose Open. Installing Matte, step by step.

The link didn’t open Matte

Make sure Matte is in Applications and has been opened once, then click the link again. If your browser asks whether to open Matte, allow it. You can always type the code instead.

It says the code is wrong

Codes are 8 letters and numbers, with or without the dash, in any case. Only the newest code works: asking for a new one cancels the last. Check you used the same email you signed up with.

It says the code has expired

Codes last 14 days. Ask for a new one on the resend page and it arrives straight away.

It says I’ve reached the device limit

One sign-up covers up to 3 Macs. Write to hello@studionine.agency and we’ll free up a slot.
